Geocache Description:

"…It came to pass in those days that the Qwah-beet (beavers) had built a dam from Cape Blomidon, to the opposite shore, and thereby made a pond that filled all the valley of Annapolis.

In those times the Beavers were monstrous beasts, and the Master, though kind of heart seems to have had but little love for them…

Now Glooscap would have to hunt…so he cut the great dam near the shore, and bade Marten to watch, for he said, "I mistrust that there is a little Beaver hiding hereabouts.”

When the dam was cut from where it joined the shore there was a mighty rush of many waters, so that it swung around to the westward. Yet it did not break away from the shore and the end of it lodged with a great split. (The hole may be seen there still. Cape Split, called Pleegun by the Micmacs, interpreted, means the opening of a beaver dam.)

Then, to frighten the Beaver, Glooscap threw at it a few handfuls of earth. These, falling somewhat eastward of Partridge Island, became the Five Islands and the pond which was left was the Basin of Minas."

This cache will take you to an obsevation deck on the Blomidon Jodrey Trail. From the lookoff the cliffs of Five Islands Provincial Park across the Minas Basin are prominent, and, on a clear day, you can almost spot Truro in the distance.

The entire trail system is well marked with red & yellow flashes but exercise xtreme caution near lookoffs and never venture beyond fences and other barriers.

You can park at the coordinates provided below or you can continue up the paved road (when open) to the park entrance, which reduces both the distance and difficulty.
