On England's Green and Pleasant Land (Micro 1) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Long Man: I have made two requests for this cache to be maintained and the listing is still disabled. I feel the owner has had sufficient time to carry out the required maintenance, but has failed to do so.

Because of this I'm archiving the cache.

Geocache Description:

This is micro 1 of a series of four stand alone caches that when you have completed will give you the co-ordinates for the bonus cache where the goodies can be found.

This series of caches give beautiful views of St Mildreds Church, Tenterden (where Horatia Nelson is buried) and views of the local Trout Farm and surrounding countryside.

Between Micro2 and 3 you have the opportunity to visit the town of Tenterden itself. You approach the town through The Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway, a great place for youngsters of all ages to see a working steam railway. There are many events arranged throughout the year, details can be found on www.kesr.co.uk .

The tree lined High Street has a variety of shops, tea rooms and pubs should you need to refresh yourself before attempting the rest of the micros. The town has its own museum (free to enter) with many details of the local area and trades around the district. Horatia Nelson, the illegitimate daughter of Admiral Lord Nelson, lived for many years above what is now the library in the High Street and is buried in the church yard behind The Woolpack Inn. A little more up-to-date, Mariette and Charlie’s cottage from ‘The Darling Buds of May’, can be found in Swain Road, which is near the start of the tour.

Other notables from the area are David Frost, the famous broadcaster, William Caxton, the printer of the first English book and Ellen Terry, the famous actress.

Although dogs are welcome on this walk, there are areas where strict control is required as there are many farm animals around so please take care. It gets very muddy when wet so if the weather has been damp, wellies are recommended.
