Geocache Description:

The cache is placed in the center of Riga, not far from Freedom Monument

This cache is dedicated to George Armistead, an Englishman who was mayor of Riga a century ago when the city was one of czaristRussia's fastest growing towns. George Armitstead was the mayor of Riga from 1901 – 1912. During this time water – line and sewerage system was built as well as construction of the railway management.

The Children’s Hospiltal was built for the money contributed by the family of Armitstead.

In order to remark 150-ty birthday of George Armitstead, the book “Baltic stories” written by his granddaughter Maud Radcliffe, was published in 1997. There are many interesting things in this book about the family of Armitstead as well as about the historical events of Latvia during the beginning of the 20 century.

The cache will guide you to the one nice place, associated with this person.
