Camp Cullom

This area of the camp is the Hardwood Highland; the trail system will take you on a tour of the woodland. While this is not an old growth forest it is a good example of a typical woodland habitat. The principal species are walnut, the oaks, the hickories, ash, the maples, yellow-poplar, basswood and cottonwood. Several species of song birds can be observed in this area of the camp.

Camp Cullom started in 1942 as a Girl Scout camp due largely to the generosity of the George Cullom family. In 1947, the Girl Scouts invited the Boy Scouts to join them in operating the camp. The result was a trust agreement transferring ownership and management of Camp George C. Cullom and forming Clinton County Foundation for Youth in June of 1947.

Mission Statement

The Clinton County Foundation for Youth, Inc. maintains Camp Cullom for the use of non-profit, charitable, and character building youth groups of Clinton County. It manages the camp's resources for quality environmental education, and recreational activities on behalf of the boys and girls of Clinton County.

Objectives

1. To manage the resources for a diversity of environmental education activities.

2. To provide an adequate campsite opportunity for all types of youth groups.

3. To teach good conservation practices by example.

4. To maintain our diverse habitats for quality ecological study.

5. To demonstrate harmony with the natural environment in our buildings and conservation practices.

Camp Staff

At present, the camp employs a full time ranger, who lives at the camp. He monitors camp usage and takes care of the many upkeep tasks which the facility necessitates.

During the summer months, the ranger conducts nature programs for various groups. The camp encourages groups of all ages to take advantage of the resources of Camp Cullom to learn about the world we live in. Conservation and preservation of our environment, flora, and fauna are emphasized
