Long sand dune formation / lange zandduinformatie
BEDAFSCHE BERGEN AARDKUNDE Het gebied bestaat uit een langgerekte en licht gebogen hoge stuifzandwal die ver boven zijn omgeving uitsteekt en plaatselijk erg steile flanken heeft. Op een deel van de stuifzandwal is nog open en actief stuifzand aanwezig. De stuifzandwal ontstond toen tijdens de grootschalige (post)middeleeuwse zandverstuiving als gevolg van te intensieve landbouwpraktijken pogingen werden ondernomen om het stuivende zand met eikenhoutwallen vast te leggen. Het stuifzand hoopte zich in en rond de eikenhakhoutwal hoog op. De eiken werden meestal gedeeltelijk door het zich ophopende zand bedolven maar bleven toch doorgroeien waardoor hun toppen nu als een soort eikenstruweel boven de toppen uitsteken, maar in feite hele bomen zijn. Opdracht: Parkeer op: N 51 40.070 E 005 34.617. Ga naar: N 51 40.154 E 005 34.475 en maak vanaf hier een foto richting duinwal met daarop jezelf en GPS. Meet de hoogte van deze duinwal: A; ten opzichte van de lagere omgeving. B; ten opzichte van N.A.P. Beantwoord de volgende vragen: Wat is de oppervlakte van dit gebied? Welke (onwaarschijnlijke) dieren leefden hier vroeger? LOGS MET JUISTE FOTO EN GEMAILDE GOEDE ANTWOORDEN BLIJVEN STAAN. DE REST WORDT VERWIJDERD. BEDAFSCHE BERGEN (BEDAF MOUNTAINS) GEOLOGY The area consists of a single long streched, slightly curved, high wind-borne sand dune which stands high above its surroundings and has very steep flanks. On parts of the dune there are still open and active sands (windborne). This windborne sand dune was formed during the big medievel windborne sand movements due to excessive agricutural activities. In an attempt to stop the sand movement, oak trees were planted to detain the sand. In and around these oak tree walls the sand accumulated and formed this high dune. The trees got partly covered by the sand but kept growing with result the oak scrubs on top of the dunes which are actually burried trees. Assignment: Park at: N 51 40.070 E 005 34.617 Go to: N 51 40.154 E 005 34.475 and have your picture taken while holding your GPS, the big sand dune in the bachground. Measure the height of this dune: A; compared with its lower surrounding. B: compared to N.A.P. (standard Dutch water level). Answer the next questions. What is the size of this area? Which (unlikely) annimals used to live here? LOGS WITH CORRECT PICTURES AND RIGHT ANSWERS BY MAIL WILL STAY ON THE SITE, OTHERS WILL BE REMOVED.
