Geocache Description:

Decon container hanging in tree. 4WD is recommended for all vehicles travelling along 1N01 as the trail is rated Most Difficult by the forest service.

Welcome the the Cleghorn Ridge road cache collection. This is a series of caches setup to get you across the Cleghorn Ridge road. WAIT A SECOND! This isn't Cleghorn road! How did this cache get all the way up here? Is the Cleghorn road really that long that it extends all the way across the mountains? Ok, so maybe the Cleghorn road isn't THAT long, but these pesky decon containers do pop up in the strangest places. The cache was named #8700 because that is the elevation where the cache is located.

The real trail you should be on is Pipes Canyon Road (1N01). Pipes Canyon Road begins at Hwy 38 near the Onyx Summit and continues down the canyon until the end where the Wildlands Conservancy has closed the road. The total length of the trail is about 9 miles starting at Hwy 38. The trail is quite narrow and rocky in sections. While a stock 4x4 vehicle can navigate the entire length of the trail, there are some rough sections and many narrow portions. The area is quite remote, so please plan ahead and travel with a friend. Pipes Canyon Road used to actually go all the way through to Pioneertown, but after the fires in 2005, they closed the road to through access. Hopefully it will be reopened soon.
