Geocache Description:

This is in a series of cemetery caches started by Cachecrazies to take you on a tour of Baxter county. We were honored to be asked to help in the placement of these caches.

Custer-Herron Cemetery was established to move people from cemeteries below the water line on the eastside of the Lake Norfork dam project. It was completed in June 1943. The government designation for this cemetery was New Herron, North Fork Cemetery number NFC-5-R. Five cemeteries were relocated. They were:



Herron NFC-11 390 Graves 175 Unknown

Cantrell NFC-12 1 Grave 1 Unknown

Henderson NFC-13 9 Graves 0 Unknown
Custer NFC-17 42 Graves 15 Unknown

Lankford NFC-18 110 Graves 76 Unknown

The New Herron Cemetery, now called Custer-Herron Cemetery, is located about four miles east of the Lake Norfork Bridge on 62-412 highway in Baxter County, Arkansas. It is on the south side of the highway up on a high plateau and highly visible from the highway. It is very well maintained with easy access.

Baxter County Cementary Cache. There are numerous cemeteries in Baxter County, from the very large to the very small with only a few residents . This series will take you all around the county highlighting these areas. We hope you enjoy visiting these cemeteries and please be respectful of the area.
