I think this one might be a challenge. Not to get to... that
part is easy. Just to find. When I hid this cache right in front of
my daughter, then described where it was, she couldn't find it.
That's because it is a NANO cache. It is an order of magnitude
smaller than a typical micro.
Bring your own very sharp writing instrument!(You will be
writing your name in tiny letters.)
Please make careful note of the cache placement and return it
exactly as you found it.
What is this Babylon?
This cache is hidden within a large art installation by
prominent Canadian sculptor John McEwen.
The sculpture "Babylon" and "The Tower of Babel" (the satellite
dish on the island) was created in 1991, and was installed at the
McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg, who acquired it permanently in
1993.
Meanwhile, Robert McMichael was becoming increasingly alarmed
that the gallery was not adhering to his very narrow view of
Canadian art. The Babylon installation and particularly the Tower
of Babel part (which was added later) triggered a lawsuit by
McMichael that resulted in the removal of this work and many others
from the McMichael gallery.
McEwan's sculpture was brought to Barrie in 2003 by the
MacLaren Art Centre as part of the Shore/Lines
exhibit, in conjunction with Barrie's sesquicentennial.
For more information on what it might actually mean, feel free
to
visit sculpture.org and read the article there. It is not
completely free of "art-speak" but is fairly lucid reading.
You can also view an obviously incomplete list of some of
McEwen's other installations here.
