Geocache Description:

A short walk along a country lane

Fyne Court was the home of pioneering electrician and naturalist Andrew Crosse from 1805-1855. The house burned down in 1894 and only the Folly, Music Room and Stable Block remain. Fyne Court is now owned by the National Trust. Entry is free but there is a £5 parking charge for non-National Trust members. There are toilets and a small tearoom. Regular events are organised at Fyne Court e.g. pond dipping for children, book and plant sales. There are 3 waymarked walks around the Nature Reserve, including an easy access trail. The estate is open from dawn to dusk. Dogs are welcome at Fyne Court on leads. Broomfield Church, which is normally open during the day, is also worth a visit, as it has some fine carved bench ends and an angel roof. We were unable to get permission to place a cache at Fyne Court itself, so this is the nearest spot I could find. I suggest that you park outside Broomfield Church or at Fyne Court and the cache is just a short walk from here along a lane, which is normally quite quiet but has some blind bends on it. There is a field gateway within a few metres of the cache but I don’t recommend parking here, as the lane is very narrow. You can see Broomfield Church and the top of the obelisk put up in memory of Andrew Crosse by his widow Cornelia from the cache site. There is no need to enter any fields or climb any fences to access the cache. The cache container is a small clip lock plastic box
