Geocache Description:

Small rural cemetery - limited parking. All grass, may be harder for wheelchairs. WINTER NOTICE: will need to park on side of road and walk in. Boots will be a good idea in snow covered times.

6/13/11: cache is changed to a micro - bring your own writing utensil!!

Come visit a place in history - around this cemetery was were dozens of Welsh families came and settled at the start of Wisconsin's statehood. It grew to be a large rural community of hundreds with several churches. My ancestors came from Wales and settled here in the first years of the settlement. My grandmother was born in a farm just down the road from this cemetery.

My ancestors were a part of this long gone church and are buried here.

Welsh hymn sings - Gymanfa Ganu are still held annually at the Peniel Church just to the east of Zoar cemetery. (visit link)

The first waypoint will take you to a monument describing the history of this location. In order to find the cache you will need to find the year the 1st church was built and the year the church was removed.

And the math:

Year First Church was built - 1230 = ABC
Year church was removed - 992 = DEF

N43 53.ABC
W088 38.DEF

Enjoy the Welsh names and language on the stones!

Just FYI - the four tall cedars in the middle of the cemetery are Lebanon Cedars, pretty rare for this part of the country, I'm told. **And they are no longer there - but you can still see the stumps!

Reminder - this is a cemetery - please be respectful of the graves and any mourners. The cache is not located near any graves, markers, or monuments.
