Geocache Description:

Flash Mob (FLASH mawb) n. A large group of people who gather in a usually predetermined location, perform some brief action, and then quickly disperse. —v., —adj. (from http://www.wordspy.com/words/flashmob.asp)

Saturday, October 6th, Noon.

We came. We circled. We sat! We tried to take a step... We fell.

Great Job everyone!

Milestones: Find #200 for MurryClan!

On my way home from the so far uncontested first local flashmob event in Folsom (thanks again, BSR!), I tried to think about an event that I could host that would take only a few minutes. I came up with a game I've participated in a few times, once successfully with over 300 high school students and adults while volunteering for the YMCA.

If this sounds a little strange to you, read on!

To execute a group lap sit we will need to :
1. form a circle by standing shoulder to shoulder facing toward the center. An oval will do as well. It's not required to stand next to someone of similar weight/height, but try to be within at least a foot of each other in height.
2. turn toward the right, stand close together (not toe to heel, leave one or two inches of space between you and the person in front of you), looking at the back of the head of the cacher in front of you.
3. everyone then places their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them. At the count of three, we will sit down on the knees of the person behind them, keeping your own knees together to support the person in front of
you.

If we pull this off, it is possible to begin to walk if everyone takes a step with the same foot at the same time - we'll see!

Schedule: Try to stay off the field until at least a few minutes before 12:00 - this will help the whole "flashmob" feel. At 12:00, be at ground zero and grab a nametag and index card. Write your geotag on both, wear the nametag, and place the card in the bucket to verify your attendance. By 12:08 everyone should be in the circle, at which point a few prizes will be awarded randomly. At 12:10 we will begin the lap sit by turning to the right. Listen carefully! At 12:15 a whistle will be blown, and whether we have succeeded or not we must all leave the field, again to help with the "flashmob" feel. There are a few caches nearby...

Due to the nature of this event, it's probably best to limit the participants to age 12 and up (little ones can't bear the load of an adult!). If enough young'uns arrive, we will try a lap sit cirlce with just them at the same time within our cirlce.

That's it! It should be a fun way to meet, greet, sit and support each other. Kilts are optional, but please keep in mind you might be sitting on someone else's bare knees !

If you come from Jeo's Hokey Pokey event (GC15vh5), leave your nametag on. I'll still have some blanks in case they're needed.
