Geocache Description:

A 15 minute FlashMob event where you will be required to pose as a statue in a very unique 'garden' as music is played in the background. A Royal Court will preside over the activities. Event will be video taped, edited and uploaded to YouTube.

Welcome to the FlashMob: Gates of Hell.

What is a Flash Mob? Here is a definition:

Flash Mob (FLASH mawb) n. A large group of people who gather in a usually predetermined location, perform some brief action, and then quickly disperse. —v., —adj.

EXAMPLES on YOUTUBE

A Geocaching Flash Mob

A Flash Mob at a campus
Although this particular event is listed as a Flash Mob it more closely resembles performance art. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate what ANGUISH and GNASHING OF TEETH looks like.

What anguish you say?

Why the anguish of a DNF,
or the anguish one displays when their GPS batteries have gone dead at a critical moment,
or perhaps you have been outed by muggles as shown in the picture above :-)
Geocaching does have its low moments and this event is your chance to purge
in front of the Gates of Hell!

TIME:6:30 PM Sunset

Don't be late!!

End Time: 6:45

REQUIREMENTS:
Once the bell (actually a gong) tolls 3 times you will freeze into a statuesque position for five minutes holding your GPS unit and expressing some sort of angst (while maintaining silence.) If you are coming with a friend(s) you may consider composing a position in your mind ahead of time.

When the queen sounds the gong three more times you will be able to move about and mingle until the winners are announced.

SIDE NOTE If you have ever studied Rodin’s sculptures you will note how expressive they are. Some of these are nearby at the event and you are free to integrate with them in your pose.

PRIZE(S)

Two prizes will be offered: one prize will be offered to the best individual pose and one for the best group (max. 4 people) pose.

Participants will be judged on:

  • Arriving on time
  • Holding still and being silent
  • Holding or wearing a GPS unit
  • Creativity of their ANQUISH pose

SIGNING THE LOG BOOK:
After the closing 'bell' has tolled three times you will be allowed to sign the logbook which will be in possession of the “Royal Court.” The court will be apparent when you arrive.

Unlike a traditional Flash Mob scene, you need not dash off after signing in. Feel free to mingle, trade coins, and find others to cache with in this area. It is pretty safe to cache here at night especially in a group.

NAME TAGS:
Pick your name tag up before the event. The name tags will be placed on the back windshield of a white Subaru Outback displaying a geocaching symbol on the bumper. You will find the car very near the meeting area. I highly recommend you arrive at the event early so you have time to get your name tag before the “performance.”

PARKING:
Lots of parking at the site

NOTE: This event will be filmed.
