Elektrenai means the city of Electricity. Electricity is named
after Electra (not to be mixed with the name of one of the seven
Pleiades) which stands for amber (capable to hold an electric
charge) in Greek and the cache hiders name is Gintaras which also
stands for amber but in Lithuanian.
So a lot of electricity here.
The cache is hidden near the Lithuanian Power Plant. It currently
operates at about 5% of it's power capacity, but will most likely
be running at full power after the Ignalina Power Plant is shut
down. The eight units combine into a 1.8GW power capability of the
plant. It now produces both the heath and electricity. The plant
was built between 1967 and 1972. Initially designed to burn a heavy
fuel oil and gas it now runs on orimulsion imported from Venezuela.
Elektrenai is supposed to generate up to 70% of Lithuania's
electricity starting 2009.
Come close and enjoy the magnitude of this engineering monster.
The cache is a plastic box placed into a camo bag. Initially loaded
with a logbook, ly2kw wooden nickel and an FTF prize (wooden nickel
too). There is a fake pencil in there for swag, too. Some amber
(electra) stones found their home there as well. And TB
Twoer starts its voyage from Electra.
Good luck!
