Geocache Description:

Cathedral View Series – A Circular Walk

Canterbury sits in a valley and there are lovely views of the cathedral from the surrounding hills, this series of caches are placed where some of the best views can be found.

Cathedral View Geocache Series #’s 3 & 4 can be linked into a circular walk. There is also a bonus cache on the walk. The co-ordinates for the bonus cache can be found in the lids of #’s 3 & 4. You can complete the walk in either direction.

due to GPS malfunction once I got home I did not have the most accurate co-ordinates for this cache,(should still be within 100ft) the clue really gives the location away. can the first finders send me the co-ordinates and I will update ASAP.

This cache can be done independently of cathedral view series #4 and the bonus, but if you want to do the walk see description below.

Description of walk

This walk is approximately 5 miles long and can be completed in 2 -3 hours. (It took us 3 hours and we had a whingy 6 year old boy with us as well as laying the caches)

Suggested parking is at TR14559 56833, N 51 16.211 E001 04.470, make your way up Heaton Rd to the footpath at the end, this is the start of the walk, TR14682 56793, N 51 16.186 E001 04.575.

At TR14617 56686, N 51 16.130 E001 04.515 go straight on across the field towards the orchards and TR14453 56236, N 51 15.892 E001 04.358 (turn around here for a cathedral view.)

Carry straight on and follow the path around to the left until you come to Stuppington Lane TR14455 56012, N 51 15.771 E001 04.352. Turn right and follow the road to the end. Turn left into Merton lane.

Keep going until you reach Merton farm and turn right at TR15025 55250, N 51 15.347 E001 04.814 (est) follow the road to the white gate at TR14852 54914, N 51 15.170 E001 04.653 and go through into the field opposite. The cathedral view is revealed again from about half way along the field.
Cache 3 can be found at TR14550 54275, N 51 14.833 E001 04.371 (est)

Go across (slightly diagonal) the field to TR14457 54128, N 51 14.756 E001 04.286 then turn right to TR14072 54192, N 51 14.799 E001 03.958 (enjoy the view when you get to the break in the trees.)

Turn right onto the road, follow the road for a short distance and then turn left onto the bridleway at TR14081 54345, N 51 14.881 E001 03.970. There is a view towards the coast at TR13652 54537, N 51 14.995 E001 03.609 and on a clear day you can see a prominent coastal feature near Sandwich.

Continue to end of the bridleway at TR13399 54641, N 51 15.056 E001 03.396, at this point to keep on the footpath you should cross the road and turn right almost immediately off the footpath opposite. There is a gap in the hedge (which we cleared of stingers) but to be honest it may be easier to follow the road for a bit. Follow the road / footpath (footpath goes through a 2nd gap in a hedge also cleared) for a bit until you come to cache 4 at TR13396 54846, N 51 15.166 E001 03.401.

Follow the path all the way to the end of New House Lane and turn right. Follow the Road for a short distance until you reach the footpath at TR14184 55713, N 51 15.616 E001 04.108 follow this footpath back to Stuppington Lane and retrace your steps to your car. Don’t forget to pick up the bonus cache.
