Navigation at night
The posted coordinates are for the first reflector. There is a
parking lot where you can leave your car at N 43° 29.990 W 079°
59.909 when searching for this cache.
THERE IS
NO CACHE AT THE POSTED COORDINATES
The longest part in any navigation exercise is usually also the
easiest. Getting to within sight of the destination. In this case,
the starting point is the parking lot provided above and in the
additional waypoints. The posted coordinates have brought you to
where the search begins. From the parking the cache is near a point
1000 metres away, on a bearing of 046 degrees magnetic. Don't worry
too much about finding a way to get there, there's a nice wide
trail that will take you to the spot without wandering too
much.
As you walk along the trail, you will eventually reach two
reflectors mounted near the trail. One is at about eye level, the
second somewhat higher up on a tree further down the trail. When
you find the reflectors, STOP. It's time to start the final
navigating.
The reflectors form a system that boaters commonly refer to as
"Range Lights" or "Leading Lights". These lights indicate a precise
path, or line that you must follow. If the upper marker is to the
left of the lower marker, then you are to the left of the correct
line. If the upper marker is to the right of the lower marker, then
you are right of the correct line.
At this point, you will need to move until you are on the line
indicated by the markers.
Next, look around for another set of reflectors that make up a
second set of range lights. You may have to walk along the line
indicated by the first set of markers, as the second set can only
be seen from a narrow section of the trail
The cache is located at the point where the two lines marked by
the reflectors intersect.
