Geocache Description:

Second Peninsula is one of our favorite places in the whole province; a sparsely populated bit of land jutting out into Mahone Bay. To get here, take Route 3 from Mahone Bay to Lunenburg, about 9 km. Second Peninsula is clearly marked. If you reach the stop sign with the blinking amber light, you've gone too far. Backtrack about 1 km.

While the same families have lived here for generations, there are new developments in the works for Second Peninsula. Many homes are for sale, and a construction of 14 environmentally-responsible homes is planned for the near future.

At present, the peninsula is alive with wildlife; many great blue heron and great variety of ducks populate the waterline in summer. Residents have placed a number of platforms to attract nesting osprey, including one visible from the cache location. They hunt all day, but are particularly active at dusk, so plan accordingly if you'd like to see them in action. Literally dozens of deer and rabbits live here year round, and they're not afraid of the road!

Do stop in at the provincial park while you're here, and find Second Peninsula Treasure cache— bring a picnic. The road loops along some gorgeous stretches of coast, too. The Second Peninsula Beach itself is sharp and pebbly, but fine for a quick dip. It's a great place to skip rocks and search for periwinkles.
