Geocache Description:

Whitewaters - Rio Paiva

Boas descidas

A Cache:

The Paiva river is a Portuguese river that flows from the Mountain of “Nave” in Moimenta da Beira into the Douro river in Castelo de Paiva. A few years ago, it was considered one of the less polluted rivers in Europe, and even today it is a local of spawning of fishes like Trout. It is classified as a local of Communitarian Importance in the program “Natura 2000”.

It crosses Arouca, where radical sports are promoted throughout its course to Castelo de Paiva, very beautiful places and whitewaters zones. There are some places of the river that are difficult or even impossible to observe, unless by boat. It is possible to watch herons, water tortoises and trouts throughout the river. Every year in Arouca the Festival WhiteWaters is organized promoting the withewaters activities. One of the starting points is the fluvial beach (unofficial assignment) of Espiunca, next to the Bridge of Espiunca.
There are some local watersports companies which organize descendings in groups. I’ve already done it twice and I strongly recommend it because it is really great.
Good descendings
