Revision: 11/12/09- Posted coordinates represent the cache. This
is no longer a Multi- Stage cache. Based on logs, no value to
making you go through the back fields- briars and ticks for no real
benefit. You can park on the church access road.
Turleys have lived around here since the 1700's. The last Turley
Hall was built in the late 1860's and fronted Centerville Road. In
the early 1990s, when I first saw it, the house was abandoned but
still quite stunning. You can see the older trees that surrounded
the old house still.
I have some plants from here that are in my garden today- a few
double blooming day lillies and some cypress spurge...but I
digress.
This house sat here for decades- the last bit abandoned and in
title dispute. Arsonists burned it in 1995 and the County had to
bulldoze the remains. A slave cemetery on the grounds is a few
hundred yards away. See waypoint for the coordinates. I only saw
one small limestone marker with no legible writing.
If you go in the back fields, the are so many geo-trails to
explore!! You will spook a lot of deer...in fact look out for the
deer stand noted in the waypoint below. (It is for this reason
alone- I added the danger attribute)!
Parking is on the church access road- pull off the side of the
road. I hope you enjoy the hunt.
Congrats to jeffnerner (AKA Megawheaties) for FTF!!
