Geocache Description:

Second of the Myths & Legends caches

Parts of this church date back to 1250.
The following story has several slightly different versions of the same tale - this is the one i like best.
Shortly after the church was built, but before it could be consecrated, the elderly priest at the time, named Radulphus, held an inpromtu service.
Realising the place was not yet holy, and when the church was full to the rafters, Satan burst in through the front door.
Most of the congregation froze in terror, but Radulphus tried to make his exit
THe Black One beat him to the door and slammed it shut, causing deep scratches in the door.
A brief, but terrible battle ensued, and when the parishioners braved to looked back, all they could see was a pool of seething liquid on the floor where the priest had been.
In the centre of the puddle was a shard of petrified wood, or flint, in the exact profile of the priests head.
That flint was subsequently taked to St Osyth Priory, where it is still said to be hanging in a frame on the wall.
The strangest part of the tale is that when the church was extended in the 15th century, some 300 years later, a new door was put on the church. Overnight, and before the extension could be consecrated, the exact same scratch marks appeared on the door. Maybe a reminder that He is still around... watching!

The co-ordinates above are that of the infamous door!
The church is too regularly maintained to place any cache there safely. So you'll have to find the actual hiding place about ½ a mile away by using the following clues
