Geocache Description:

ON BLACK SAGE TRAIL IN CARLSBAD. ELEVATION 325 FEET.

This cache was carried to Alaska by me for placement on Chichagof Island in Icy Strait. It was the only port of call on our cruise that did not already have a geocache. I hid the cache in view of a part of the strait popular with whales just off the beach. Subsequently, I was informed that the entire island was a part of the Tongass National Forest. I had to hike back out and retrieve the cache from a perfect little nook under an exposed tree root. The only town within 100 miles was Hoonah, a tiny Tlingit Indian village. The brown bears here outnumber the humans 3 to 1.

So, the cache is now hidden in an area much more accessible to North County geocachers. The cache is a few feet off the main trail, but in a well traveled spot. Please take care to reconceal well by sprinkling with leaf and twig litter and dirt before departing. The cache should be invisible to a casual passer by, but not to a sharp eyed geocacher.
