Geocache Description:

Soldier's Hill honors the Civil War dead. It is a constructed hill, in that women moved earth to create the mound. Civil War-era cannons guard each corner. They are the ones that once were removed and later returned.

This is one in a series of multi-caches at Peoria's historic Springdale Cemetery. The preliminary stages guide you to points of interest that hold clues. The final cache location is in one of the many wooded areas.

Bring along the map in the gallery. Besides guiding you around the winding roads, the map has been modified to identify locations referenced in the stages.

Please show appropriate respect to the markers and grounds. Instructions are added to minimize disruption to the property. The cemetery dates from 1854. While the large grounds show signs of age, recent restorations have brought out the beauty and potential of what could be done.

Stage 1 Soldier's Hill
At posted coordinates.

Only one cannon shows the year 1861. On it, find a three-digit number following "No."

A=the second digit.
B=the third digit.

The soldier statue known as The Sentinel was added in October, 2007, to replace the original that stood guard from 1870 to 1977.

Stage 2 Pet Cemetery
N 40 43 298
W089 34 110

Boomer and Leah from Glen Oak Park Zoo share the same years for birth and death.

X=the last digit of the year of birth.

Stage 3 Hidden Pond
Substitute the clues from above.

N 40 43 2AB
W089 34 43X

There are two different off road parking spots at about 400 feet. You are looking for a quart-size container with a log, pencil and trading items.

Daylight caching only. The cemetery closes to vehicles at dusk.

See the gallery for location photos.
