Part 1 of a 7 part series - Each highlighting one of the 7 Leave-No-Trace Principles.

This is a very appropriate spot to think about the importance of planning ahead and preparing for an outdoor activity, In this case consider a Canoe or kayak ride down the Willimantic River. Lot's of my family take such rides on this river but my brother and I like this put-in as it gives a more exiting ride. Perhaps too exciting for some skill levels though - hence the need for scouting the river. Along with that is the need to check weather, bring the right equipment, know the regulations (like the catch & release fly-fishing only area through Nye-Holman).
