Located at a road side turn out on HI-way 3 in southern Alberta, this view point offers a stunning view of a couple of geographic wonders.
Milk River Ridge:
The height of land forms is the divising line between two great watersheds. Streams north of this ridge flow into the Saskatchewan River system which leads to Hudson's Bay; those to the south, into the Missouri-Mississippi drainage basin and the Gulf of Mexico.
Oldman River Oxbows:
The former Oldman River flood plain has some excellent examples of oxbow channels. Oxbows are formed when adjacent meanders work into each other, thus cutting off the horseshoe-shaped loop and making a short-cut for the stream. The ends of the horseshoes become blocked by sediment, leaving an abandoned crescent-shaped channel in which oxbow lakes may form.
