Take a trip up the old Nippissing Settlement Trail, and find a few caches. This road is the historic route that the settlers used between Gravenhurst and Lake Nippissing, back in the ox cart days of the late 1800's. Although many of the lots along this route are privately owned, most are left as crown land.
One side road off the main trail led the way to Deer Lake and Eagle Lake, taking some of these settlers into the Sundridge area.
There are two ways to approach the cache site. From the east is a 4WD road which is open in the winter only as a snowmobile trail. From the west, is a 4WD road which I have seen Honda's and Volkswagen's on in the high dry summer, but is unmaintained at any other time than snowmobile season. Do not trust the maps that indicate this is a four season road...Either direction, I leave it up to you what your mode of transportation will be, and make no warranties about the passability of the road will be, nor do I take any responsibility for damage to your low slung highway car.
Sometime in the past, a hunter, or old-timer created a novel snowman out of rocks, and it just caught our eyes while out touring. We thought it so novel that it deserved a cache, so here it is.
NOTES:
- In summer, the trail from the East is passible to most vehicles.
- In winter months it becomes a snowmobile trail, so park at the East trailhead for a 1.1km hike.
- Winter friendly hide, 50cal Ammo box.
