Geocache Description:

WARNING: Anyone easily scared or timid may want to stay in the car on this one! Nice sized ammo can in historically haunted place.

* * UPDATE 2-6-09 * * I have fixed up the location because of the usual moves given by cachers. See my maintenance log below for more help!

* * UPDATE 10-10-07 * * Make sure to look at pictures before you go. If you see anyone that resembles Merle, DO NOT attempt this cache. After further research I have found stories to the contrary of below involving Merle.

I know, you are thinking, "Yeah Right! A Haunted place?" Do not say I did not warn you! Here is the quick version taken straight from a newspaper article in the month of December, 1992. "On August 24, 1992 hurricane Andrew landed in Homestead, Florida laying a path of destruction as it moved through the state. This was the worst storm to hit the area in over 30 years, and many of the people living in the area were new to the region and never had experienced a storm like this before.

The Category four hurricane hit with winds gusting to speeds of 175 miles per hour, and swells reaching 17 feet in height along the coast. The storm destroyed property and left as many as 250,000 people homeless. Sixty Five people died as a result of the storm, and many more suffered injuries."

I am aware that many of you are MORE than aware of this famous date in history. What you may not be aware of is a little known local legend. Her name is Brenda Rosinski, her boyfriend's name was Merle Harkey. They were homeless long before Andrew hit on that dreadful day. Their love for each other was unconditional, it would prove to last from life...to death...and beyond. Her boyfriend's body was discovered during the cleanup efforts but was not identified because of obvious reasons. He had no identification or way to track who he was. He was last seen with Brenda hunkering down for the storm.

Locals knew of this inseparable couple and were puzzled as to why only one was found, and the other did not either turn up lost or dead. It was only a month after the storm when locals began seeing Merle appear around the area now developed with a Taco bell. he would disappear where the cache is hidden. It is rumored that he wanders the area still looking for his love Brenda, so they can go on together in the afterlife.

While there has been no reports of Merle causing harm, there have been reports of people entering the area and being approached by Merle and grunted/growled/yelled at.

I wish you luck when attempting this cache. Please be quick about it and avoid stirring up any spirits.

I have attached a picture of the couple for your enjoyment. Open the gallery to check them out.
