Tally Ho Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

billdev: There were two determined cachers who were at ground zero today. One was working on Hiking Dude's Hike Challenge, and the other hiker is a very dedicated geocacher who already accomplished this challenge. They knew I couldn't hike in here anymore, so they retrieved cache container after logging in their finds. So, good bye to Tally Ho, the view from the overlook is pretty today, and in the fall, too.

Geocache Description:

This cache was placed with three objectives: create a great outdoor hiking experience (5.4 miles round trip with an approximately 1,000 feet elevation gain), have a great view of Tally Lake that is not often seen by others, and add another geocache “find” to your list.

To access the parking, drive on the “Farm to Market Road” (Secondary 424) turn west onto the Tally Lake Road (FS #913). Drive for 0.8 miles and turn right onto FS #2924. Road #2924 is a single lane dirt road and passable to regular vehicles, just drive slowly and cautiously (it is approximately 3.5 miles from this point to the parking).

Drive on the main traveled road, at 0.75 mile stay left and another 0.4 mile stay right. This road travels through patches of private timberlands before ending in Forest Service jurisdiction. Park at the switchback (should be room for about 3 vehicles). You will see a square hiker sign posted to a tree on the upper end of this curve.

Start hiking west on a closed road that now is a trail and in approximately one half mile Trail #458 will take off to your right (the Stovepipe Canyon Trail #196 will take you down to the lake). Follow Trail #458 to the cache. After logging in your find, continue another 700 feet for a great view of Tally Lake. Please keep children away from the cliff’s edge at this viewpoint. Please tread lightly in the cache area, enjoy the view and remember Cache-in, Trash-out.

Original contents in large ammo can: logbook, pencils, FTF reward, Souvenir Cache Cards, Halloween socks, Disney Princess playing cards, puppy puzzle, butterfly pin, Monster Inc PEZ, flowered scarf, Winnie the Pooh cards, 1988 New Orleans Mardi Gras coin, Clippie Magnet, emergency poncho, flashlight and trackable Wisconsin geocoin.
