Located on an island in Flagstaff Lake, off Flagstaff Road in Eustis.
Flagstaff Lake is a man-made lake and the water level is controlled by Florida Power and Light from Long Falls Dam. As of this writing, and most autumns, the level is very low and you can walk to this island. Stay to the higher ground and the grassy places. The lower spots are a bit mucky so wear boots. Pick some wild mint and crush a leaf. Look for deer and moose tracks. Watch for great blue herons. You can also kayak to it, even at low water, and once the level rises again in the spring you will have to use a kayak or canoe. The walk to this island takes less than five minutes. A small bit of bushwacking and scrambling up short banks may be necessary depending on where you land. For many years, a doe used this island to have twins every spring and would swim off with them evenings, returning to spend safe days. I intend, over the next few years, to make a "trail" to follow of Flagstaff Lake caches. This is the first in a series, to commemorate finding my 100th cache. The terrain is rated 5 only because getting there will usually require "special equipment", i.e., a boat.
The cache is a 30 cal ammo can. You can have a picnic on this island or even camp there, as you can on all of the islands in this lake.
Original contents include: a spiced mug mat, magnetic shopping list, moose shot glass, Maine Wildlife playing cards, Sniff designer moose tissues, and a few toys, some good, some small. FTF gets the new 2007 Northern Maine Caching Adventure coin.
