I was instantly intrigued when I did my first webcam cache at the Tri Cities Cache Machine. It was so cool to claim a find while a friend took my picture as I was standing at the posted coordinates! I then made a trip down to Pullman/Moscow to do the three webcam caches there -I had a friend that is disabled lined up to receive my calls and then log on to save my pictures when I was in view. He really got a kick out of 'vicariously' caching with me while safe at home miles away!
But I can see why these are an endangered species -so many things can go wrong! I have solved the phone a friend issue for myself now with my trusty and handy mobile broadband modem, but most cachers can and do make the call to a friend to do the image capture. And then there is the issue of upkeep and maintenance of the webcams themselves. I am lucky enough to work for the entity that hosts my webcam cache; if there is a problem with it I can just walk over and sort it all out! As technology changes, I'm sure new forms of caches will emerge to take the place of the last remaining webcams.
So, while we still have a few webcam caches in the state, here is my challenge:
In order to claim a find for the final:
- You must send me a link to your bookmark list of all successfully found webcam caches in WA state
- Previous Finds and Hides Count
- You may claim a webcam cache that you own. Only one geocacher username can claim a hide
Once you have found and successfully logged all the remaining Web Cams in WA state:
You must create, produce, post to the internet (personal webpage, youtube.com, or something to that effect) and link in your log to this final
A) A VIDEO, minimum of 30 seconds (high speed Internet option) -or-
B) A Series of 20 images (low speed Internet option) showing:
Your thoughts on 'what is a challenge' or your thoughts on 'changing technology and caching'. This could be a talking head, slideshow with commentary, or something really creative; the sky is the limit, as long as it is of course family friendly!
**Please note: the cacher does not have to actually be pictured in the video or images.
You may not log this cache as a find until all requirements have been met for each individual. I look forward to seeing what folks have come up with for the final requirement!
