Geocache Description:

Green ammo box.

This cache was placed in honor of our cat Fluffy who passed away on Sunday September 23, 2007.

The “Western Reserve” refers to the northeastern section of Ohio that was originally part of Connecticut after the Revolutionary War. In 1796 the territory was sold to the Connecticut Land Company who subsequently surveyed the area and divided it into 25 square mile sections called townships. The boundary marker at the cache site represents the southeast corner of the “Connecticut Western Reserve” an area that includes Cleveland, Akron, Canton and Youngstown (now being referred to as Cleveland Plus).

In the center of the road adjacent to the cache site is a metal plate with the letter M on it. When you stand on the M you will be standing in two states (Ohio and Pennsylvania), two counties (Mahoning and Lawrence) and four townships (Poland, Springfield, Mahoning and North Beaver). It’s not quite the Four Corners area of the Southwest US but it is ours. Poland was the first settlement in the Western Reserve as it was founded in 1796, the same time as when the marker was originally placed.
