Whenever I hike in this area I wonder who put so many kinks in the trails. After a little research I discovered that it was because of the squirrels. It seems that when the Civilian Conservation Corps was building the road they came across this hole that was right in the middle of where they needed to go. The chief engineer on the project was catching a little R and R up in Blackduck at the time so they just decided to fill it as it was only 20 feet in diameter. After 315 dump truck loads of dirt they knew there was a problem when they still couldn’t see the bottom. It was time to get the engineer back on the job. After many calculations and 42 spools of fishing line he concluded that it was a bottomless hole so they rerouted the road and he went back fishing. Several years later a grad assistant at BSU was working on suspected meteorite impacts in the area and ran across an anomaly that needed further investigation. Being a city fellow he hired a man named Bill Fargnot who had just lost everything in a farming venture, to rediscover the hole. Bill was only too happy to be working and tromped around for the better part of a week in the woods with no luck. The circus was in town that week and this is where Bill wound up one evening when a brilliant idea struck him. He would lease the flying squirrel from the circus to help him find the bottomless hole. The squirrel took to him right away and in two days they were sitting on the edge of the hole. Bill decided to send the little animal in for a reconnaissance flight to help defray expenses, to see if anything of value could be found. At dusk on the fifth day the squirrel returned and reported. After learning the secret of the hole, Bill knew what he had to do. With the help of the flying squirrel and their new friends, they created a maze of trails that would hide the location and confuse even the most seasoned woodsman. This cache is located at the place where Bill and the squirrel decided to protect the secret of the hole. These are the actual coordinates:
