Geocache Description:

This is the third part of the “Thing” trilogy based around the UFO phenomena occurring around the Wiltshire town of Warminster. It needs a little background research on the net and I would suggest a notebook at the site. You could try this a night and maybe you'll get lucky and encounter “The Thing!”

Throughout the whole “Thing” mystery, Arthur Shuttlewood, local reporter was the principle source of information and mainly responsible for the decade that Warminster was the focal point for UK ufology. Shuttlewood always proclaimed his hard-headedness and cynicism, stating 'I am not easily fooled. I dare not be. I have built my reputation as a journalist on the bedrock of integrity.' However by the release of his first book, The Warminster Mystery, he was not only reporting on the mystery, he was a actively proselytizing the “Thing” to be of extraterrestrial origin. Eventually, Shuttlewood became a guru for the ufological fraternity that frequented Warminster; not only because of his charisma, but also through his position as the favored intermediary, and his increasing comfort in the language of the mystic and the visionary. The guru's temple was Cradle Hill, the summit of which rises 150 feet above the town and Shuttlewood could often be found there. In his book, Warnings from Flying Friends, he refers to it as 'our beloved Cradle Hill' and 'mound of mounting mysteries' The cache has two parts: First you need to find a copy of Warnings from Flying Friends, available free online, and take the numbers at the end of the dedication page, labeling them from A to G (if a number is repeated give it the same letter). The site of the first location is given by: 51° AC.C(F-A)C 002 AD.DGE Inside the container you will find a the encoded co-ordinates. You need to look around the field barn to find some graffiti with similar characters. Note these down and label them with odd numbers starting from 0 (i.e. 0, 1, 3 etc). If a character repeats give it the same value. On the back of the co-ordinates the is a similarly encoded parking site. The cache is an approximately 600m walk away down a byway of about 200m away from the second parking spot. At no point do you need to climb any fences or obstacles. Might be a hard slog for wheelchair but ok for strollers.
