Broken Limbs Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Folshen: Gabrielle and I wandered over into the preserve after getting home today and we confirmed the cache has definitely been muggled. Since the muggles obviously know the location we're going ahead with an archive instead of placing another container. Thanks to all who visited as the logs and pictures have been quite enjoyable over the past couple years!

Geocache Description:

Decon Container in the West Lake Nature Preserve. Open daily from 8am until sunset.

Gabrielle and I noticed this while archiving a cache in the same area. I joked about putting a cache "up there" and she thought it was a great idea. I on the other hand wasn't nearly as anxious as she was but I kept seeing it in my head. It eventually got the best of me and we went ahead with the hide.

When you get to the cache site, before you leave the earth behind, you should be able to see the container hanging in the breeze. It looks worse than it really is...but be careful just the same. I would HIGHLY recommend using the buddy system here and not attempting this cache if your alone.

I would suggest leaving anything of any value near the base as this is one tree you will not only climb up, but also out. At the actual cache site you'll be roughly 15' off the ground and depending upon the time of year there could be some very wet & nasty terrain below you. The last thing you'd want is to watch it swallow your car keys, cell phone, GPS etc.

Once more I highly recommend NOT attempting this one solo. If you can't find anybody to make the trek with ya give me a shout and I'm sure we can arrange something as I live right near the entrance to the preserve. If your hesitant about the tree holding ya...it had no problems with my 250lbs and I did some bouncing just to be sure. Again, use your own judgment and hey, it's only a single smiley...you'll never get them all anyhow. If you do reach the cache please make sure to close the lid tightly and DO NOT allow the strap to get caught inside. These things are very much leak proof unless you don't close them proper.

One last thing, spotting the cache is not the same thing as logging the cache. If your name isn't in the log book I may very well delete your find. Another reason the buddy system could be beneficial, only one has to make the climb.

Good luck and if you feel the D/T need adjusting please make a note of it in your log.
