Geocache Description:

THIS IS A MYSTERY CACHE. THE ABOVE COORDINATES ARE FAKE. Read on for instructions needed to derive the real coordinates.

This cache is the 2nd in a series* created as a tribute to the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. It is a micro with only a log, so BYOP.

...I'm standin' on the railroad,
Waitin' on the Graveyard Train...

Creedence Clearwater Revival, frequently referred to as CCR or simply Creedence, was an American swamp rock band, fronted by John Fogerty. Although it hailed from the Bay Area of California, the group clearly was heavily influenced by the swamp blues genre that came out of south Louisiana in the late 1950s and early to mid-1960s. CCR cultivated a Louisiana connection through its choice of song and album titles, such as Born On The Bayou, Bayou Country, and Mardi Gras, as well as through the southern "good ol' boy" image projected by its members.

They derived their name from several sources. First came a friend of a friend whose name was Credence (with three E's, not four). Next, a beer commercial gave them the idea of Clearwater. And finally, Revival referred to their personal recommitment to the band.

Graveyard Train is the 11th song produced by the group. It was included on the group's second album, Bayou Country, which was released on January 5, 1969. At 8:37, it is the longest song on the album.

Now, on to the cache...

The cache is located in a graveyard at Shelbiana, Kentucky. It is not very far from the CSX (formerly C&O) railroad yard. From the graveyard you can see the tracks in the distance. You may even see/hear a train in motion while you're there.

In order to get the actual coordinates, and thus locate the cache, you will need to gather some information from the "graveyard". As you come upon the graveyard location, you will see a place to park your car just to the left.

From there, you need to visit the graves of two individuals and collect some information.

1) The grave of Grady Kinney is at: N 37 25.399, W 082 29.726.

I was fortunate to have known "Shady" Grady for many years before his passing. Along with his great sense of humor, he had a passion for helping children through the Shriners' Hospitals. Out of that passion, he and fellow Shriner Howard Stratton co-founded Pikeville's Hillbilly Days festival in 1977 to raise money for the hospitals. The festival has grown to be the second largest in Kentucky, second only to the Kentucky Derby, and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a very worthwhile cause.

The Shriners have a saying: No man ever stood so tall as when he stoops to help a child. Based on that, Grady was a giant.

2) The grave of Everett Brown is located at: N 37 25.404, W 082 29.726

Everett Brown was a long-time Methodist minister. He was a gentle, soft-spoken, God-fearing, and well-loved individual. For many years he pastored the Methodist church in which I grew up (Aldersgate UMC at Robinson Creek). The epitaph on his tombstone says it all: Prepare to meet me in Heaven

The ACTUAL COORDINATES are to be derived as follows:

N 37 25.4AB, W 082 29.CCD

where

AB = the last two digits in the year of Grady's birth

C = the day of the month of Everett's birth PLUS the day of the month of his death

D = the third digit of the year in which Everett died

As usual for this type of setting, please be respectful and allow all to rest in peace. Though there are no posted hours, I would not recommend doing this cache at night.

* This cache is based on a CCR theme conceived by a fellow BSAG cacher, Jumpin' Jack Cache.
