Geocache Description:

Welcome to my 2nd Gee-O-Cache cache! Since I got good reviews for my West Hills Gee-O-Cache, I thought I'd put one in here, Caumsett State Park. The above coordinates are not the cache coordinates, but are the coordinates for the parking area.

The cache is an ammo can and can be found hidden somewhere in Caumsett State Park. I was inspired in placing this cache by the Saxon Woods Ge-O-Cache.

A cache in a state park that combines elements of geocaching and orienteering in order to find the treasure.

There are two elements to this hunt. This first element requires the use of a GPS to locate the starting point for the second element. That first element is Fall Day at Caumsett. At GZ for Fall Day at Caumsett you will find nearby a road, the beginning point for the search for the final location. The second element is finding the cache via an orienteering leg. The map and legend to be used for the orienteering leg are attached and should be printed for the hunt. The beginning point is located in the triangle, the cache is located in the circle in the center. The orienteering map is reproduced with the permission of Long Island Orienteering Club. If you like the orienteering element check out LIOC at this website. (visit link) The site will also provide links to pages where you can learn about orienteering and how to do it if you are not familiar with it and want to give this a try. The orienteering leg is rated at the red (intermediate) level of difficulty.

The cache is well hidden so it may take some looking to locate it. Please do not post coordinates for the cache as the purpose of this cache is to add the skill element of map navigation to the hunt. I have based the terrain and difficulty ratings upon the need to use this skill.

The map is a copyrighted material of Long Island Orienteering Club. LIOC has authorized the use of the map section for the limited purpose of seeking this cache. Use of it is limited to that purpose. By using the map you agree to use it solely for that purpose.
