Shaytown Traditional Cache
-allenite-: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Easy Grab and Go!
Very little is known about some of the old roadside cities, apparently forgotten by time. Shaytown, Michigan, is just that sort of location. Shaytown itself is located in the NE corner of Eaton County along highway M-50 at coordinates N42 42.25, W84 58.57, about 1 mile SE of the Cache. It is 864 feet above sea level, and yes this place even comes up in online maps. For years I have driven past this spot daily on my way to work, and NEVER knew that the small collection of homes even had a name. Don't look for a road sign, there isn't one.
The name itself is rare. Only New Jersey and Pennsylvania have locations with the same name, and all three are pretty much unmarked roadside spots in the middle of nowhere. But that does not make this any less important of a place.
To honor this Shaytown as best possible, I have chosen to place a cache nearby. In keeping with my profession and hobby, the cache is located near an area of "relative" importance approximately 1 mile NW of Shaytown. When you make it to this site, you will see that others before you have thought enough of the place to erect this electrical memorial to grace those who chose to live and pass through this area. Please stay between the road and the fence, as we do not have permission to be on the far side of the fence. When you arrive you will note that there is space to park off the road and VERY close to the cache.
The cache is a large prescription bottle with a little room for trade items and/or small Travel Bugs. There is a prize in the cache for the lucky and devoted geocacher who finds it first. Please take care to re-attach the cache carefully before returning to the hiding place.
If you know any additional tidbits about Shaytown, please note it in your online logs so we may all learn.
