Geocache Description:

The trail will take you from the oldest part of Penicuik to the newest.
This is a multi-cache with a micro container at the end. (Due to the size of the container there is no room for swaps and you will require to bring your own pen or pencil.)
It should take you about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to complete the cache.

In the churchyard at the above co-ordinates stands the pre - reformation church St Kentigern, the bell tower was added in1743. Find a plaque dedicated to "Rab and his friends" indicating that the churchyard is the resting place of the Howgate carrier and his wife. Using A = 1, B = 2 etc find the second letter of the wifes name make that = "A"

St Mungo's was built in 1771 due to the deteriation of St Kentigern and also due to the increase in the population of Penicuik, the church was extended to the side in 18"B"0.

Continue down the High Street to the Cowan Institute a gifted to the people of Penicuik by Alexander Cowan, a well-known local paper mill owner. Built of pink Cumberland freestone it is now known as Penicuik Town Hall. The wrought iron bracket clock was added in 190"C".

Pass The Old Crown Inn and find the last digit of the Patisserie telephone number make that = "D".

Now round the corner past the Belgian consulate to the The Square, what is the first diget of Rachel Cottage house number, make that = "E".


The final clue is at N 55 degrees 49.585 minutes W 003 degrees 13.104 minutes, the Napoleonic Prisoner- of -War Monument, which was erected in 18"F"0
