Broken Boot Gold Mine Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rana Pirica: Greetings from Geocaching.com

It looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While we feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from hiding new geocaches around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Therefore we are archiving this cache so that someone else can place a cache in the area and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. If you haven't done so already, please pick up any remaining cache pieces as soon as possible.

If you are in the process of replacing or repairing your cache please e-mail me in response to this archival, and I will assist you in getting your cache re-listed if possible.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and look forward to seeing your caches up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

Located near the Broken Boot Gold Mine. The Mine is opened for tours from the beginning of June to the end of August, however the cache does not require entering the mine, thus making the cache available all year. For your safety, do not go near the building or entrances when the facility is closed. Tours go on every thirty minutes, so if you plan on taking a tour, check the time for the next tour before you hunt for the cache.

The Broken Boot Gold Mine started in 1878. In that year, Olaf Siems (pronounced Simes) built an exploratory tunnel. This tunnel let them know that there was enough gold in the hillside to start mining. Interestingly enough this mine didn't make much of its money from gold, it made it from another mineral. To find out the name of this mineral you'll just have to take a tour!

I used to be employed at this Mine as a docent, but sadly this summer they hired a different crew. Either way the tours there are amazing, and all of the tour guides are well versed and extremely entertaining. Admission for adults is 5 dollars, and extremely worth it.

Happy Caching!
