About a 3 mile roundtrip hike, depending on your approach, with approx. 700 foot elevation gain to a once used fire lookout tower
I hiked in from the north and the trail is in good shape. It appears by the tracks in the trail that the mountain bikers use this trail, so beware. They are probably the ones that have cleared the trail by the look of things.
A few nice old trees on the way but the views are very limited.
The 70 foot Aermotor tower was built in 1927 and is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register. The inside stairway that was added in 1939 has been dismantled but most of the cab is still there, minus windows.
The ammo can and contents was a raffle prize from the Central Oregon Cache and Camp 2007 event hosted by or-pingman. Since there was talk about the fire lookout challenge I figured this would be a great spot for the hide, and I've been wanting to check this location out anyway. Please take the time to rehide well.
