There are 3 ways you could get to this cache. What looks like
the shortest route might not be the best. I HAVE NOT driven up
Pacific Heights Road and I have no idea if access to the forest
exists from this road.
I recommend hiking the Pauoa Woods Loop as the Hawaiian Trail
and Mountain Club maintains this trail and it is really a great 5
mile hike. You'll have fabulous views along the trail and the
vegetation variety is just as fabulous. At the right time of the
year you'll pass by stands of sweet smelling white and yellow
ginger. You'll walk thru an area where you can see rare endemic
Hawaiian snails. There are great bamboo patches, streams w/running
water and small waterfalls. Banyan trees with their incredible root
systems are in abundance. And of course there is my other cache on
the loop The Pauoa Woods Loop Cache.
Besides my second cache there are two others near by the
Nuuanu Nest Egg and the Manoa
Bamboo
The trail was last cleared and ribboned on December 7th, 2008 a
date that will live in INFAMY. I recommend going Counter Clock
Wise, looking for the Manoa Bamboo and Nuuanu Nest Egg caches,
These two might add another mile to your day, then take the Nuuanu
trail down following your GPS to this cache. Then continue along
the loop and pick up the Pauoa Woods Loop cache on your way
out.
