Auf der Suche nach diesem Cache werdet ihr zu einer Stelle
kommen, die weitgehend unbekannt ist. Zwischen Propsteier Wald und
dem Stolberger Bahnhof stand zur Römerzeit eine herrschaftliche
Villa. Der Bautyp ist die sogenannte Villa Rustica.
Gefunden wurde sie per Zufall 1876. Bei archäologischen
Untersuchungen in den Jahren 1880 bis 1881 wurden Kellerräume, ein
Hof, ein Pistrinium (Mahlmühlenraum) mit Mühlstein aus Eifellava,
eine Küche, eine Badeanlage mit Hypokaustum und Abzugskanäle mit
einem Bleirohr festgestellt. Datiert wird die Anlage auf etwa 300
n. Chr.. Zu sehen sind heute nur noch niedrige Mauerreste und viel
Steinmaterial. Im Sommer ist durch Pflanzenwuchs fast nichts zu
erkennen.
Diese Informationen habe ich einem kurzen Artikel bei Wikipedia
entnommen. Weitergehende Recherchen im Internet führten immer nur
auf Artikel mit fast identischem Inhalt. Eine genaue Ortsangabe
konnte ich nicht finden. Erst mit zwei eigenen Erkundungsausflügen
konnte ich die Villa finden.
Der Zugang zur Villa ist die eigentliche Herausforderung dieses
Caches: Südlich der Villa fällt das Gelände steil ab zur Bahnanlage
des Stolberger Bahnhofs in etwa 100m Entfernung. Von dort aus ist
kein Zugang auf direktem Weg zum Cache möglich!
Versucht es bitte nicht! Nördlich der Villa ist das Gelände zum
ehemaligen Militärstandort "Camp Astrid" durch einen Zaun
begrenzt.
Es gibt aber eine Möglichkeit, den Cache zu erreichen ohne die
Bahnanlage und ohne "Camp Astrid" betreten zu müssen. Feste Schuhe
und dichte Hosen sind wichtig! Je nach Zugang für den ihr euch
entscheidet, rechnet mit Dornen, Gestrüpp und Zecken. Daher auch
die hohe Terrainwertung.
Der Cache liegt an den Koordinaten des Listings aber etwas
abseits der Villa, um unnötige Zerstörung durch Cachesuchen zu
vermeiden. Vom Cache aus findet ihr die historische Anlage in etwa
25m in Richtung 100°. Bitte dort nichts verändern!
Der Behälter ist eine 850ml "lock&lock"-Dose.
Bitte den Cache vorsichtig freilegen und wieder sorgfältig
verstecken, danke!

On the search after this Cache you will come to a place, that is
quiet unknown. Between "Propsteier Wald" and the Stolberg railway
station a mansion stood to the Roman time. The type of building is
the so-called Villa Rustica.
It was found by coincidence in 1876. On archaeological
investigations in the years 1880 to 1881 cellar areas, a yard, a
Pistrinium (mill area) with millstone made of Eifel lava, a
kitchen, public baths with Hypokaustum and exhaust ducts with a
lead pipe were found. The plant ist dated to approximately 300
A.D.. Today only low wall remainders and much stone material can be
found. During summertime most is unvisible because of overgrowing
plants.
These information I took from a short article at Wikipedia. Some
searches in the internet in each case led on articles with nearly
identical contents. I could not find an exact location reference.
Only after two investigation trips by myself I could find the
mansion.
The approach to the mansion is the actual challenge of this
cache: South of the mansion the area steeply plunges down to the
railway facility of the Stolberg railway station in about 100m
distance. From where there is no possible approach on
direct way to the cache! Please don't try to! North the area is
defined by a fence to the former military area "Camp Astrid".
There is however a way to reach the Cache without trespassing
neither the railway facility nor the "Camp Astrid" area. Firm shoes
and sturdy trousers are recommended. Depending on the path you
take, beware of thorns, scrubb and ticks. Therefore the high
terrain rating.
The Cache can be found at the coordinates of this listing and
that is somewhat off the mansion, in order to avoid unnecessary
destruction by searching the cache. From the cache you can find the
historical plant at about 25m toward 100°. Please don't change
anything there!
