Geocache Description:

A short walk through some back woods. Yeah, the same woods where Jake's ghost still hangs out!

Poor Jake! I guess that you could call him a disgruntle old cuss of a ghost. Back when he was alive he was very reclusive and totally kept to himself. He didn't much trust people and thought all they were good for was trouble. He had a tiny little shack back in these woods. (Folks say that some remnants of his shack are still around today; but I would not recommend going that deep in "his" woods to try to find it! ) He lived off whatever the land would provide him. He apparently wasn't too picky about that either. Squirrel legs and moon shine were his main staples. But, I also hear he made a mean opossum & wild berry stew though! He hunted with his grand daddy's old black powder rifle and caught fish using only a homemade net and a spear he whittled out of mesquite wood. Some folks say that he thought he was Davy Crockett or something! Although.... Jake wore an old squirrel skin hat instead of the "coon skin" hat that Davy wore. Oh well; no matter. I guess both hats would keep their heads warm and have such an odiferous effect that they keep wasps, bees, hornets and humans at a safe distance!

Anyway, the point is: The reason that Jake is the way he is and still haunts these woods is because of the ....(cue scary music!)......"INCIDENT"......that happened.....way back when. HE WANTS REVENGE! So for all these years his ghost has been hanging around these woods......just lying in wait to get his revenge on something or somebody! People in the area know about the hauntings and so these woods aren't used much by anybody that knows the tale. And...that could be another reason why he's still around. Well, I guess we almost made "good bait" last night when we were trying to hide our cache.......But, boy howdy! When we saw the ghost of Jake.........we dropped that ammo can lightening fast and skeedattled the heck outta there like Michael Johnson running for the Olympic gold! So, this time he had to settle for revenge on only an ammo can! Whew!

We did come back today..........In BROAD DAYLIGHT to try retrieve our ammo can. Goodness knows that we've lost enough cans already this summer; compliments of the great flood of 2007!

Anyway, we made a mad dash into the woods--- his woods--- but didn't find the can where we dropped it. We kind of tenderly (that translates to: scarily & leerily) searched the area we "lost" it in. We didn't see it. We were about to give up & leave when Randy thought he spotted it a little ways off. We got a shot of braveness and investigated further. Yep, that was our can alright. Our stash note was still glued to the inside lid but beyond that it was hardly recognizable once Jake got through with it! We quickly inspected it, re loaded it with swag, log book, pens, stash note...all the while keeping our eyes peeled and are ears alert! We would've re -hidden it; but we didn't want to dilly-dally any longer than we had to! So we left it where Jake put it, marked the quickest coords ever and got the heck outta there!!

We didn't have any Jake sightings today so I'm hoping that ole Jake is happy now and that he can finally move on from "here" now. But, just to be on the safe side I'd sure think about doing this cache in the daytime ! We know from first hand experience that you do not want to run into "Jake".

Well that's it! You've be WARNED! What you decide to do from here on out is all on you. We take no responsibility for your actions. Do the cache, don't do it--it's totally up to YOU! Our recommends are : Don't do this cache if you are afraid of ghosts, don't do this cache anytime other than broad daylight, and don't do this cache alone!

For the brave: you will be looking for an Ammo can. We added new swag so if'n you're into the trade thing then come ready to trade. Might want to leave something "extra" in the cache for Jake too .........I have a sneaking suspiscion that he will be keeping a close eye on this one!

I'm graciously providing you with the closest parking coordinates (N 31 32.144/W 097 14.870)so that you can get in and out of there as quick as possible. Note: We did notice some sparatic bits of the dreaded 3 leafed stuff on the way to the cache.....but it was baby PI so you should be able to avoid it if you just watch for it.

PS: Please don't post any notes to the page about this one needing maintenance or to be checked on or anything of the sort...........CUZ I'M NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN!!!!!!!! Jake will have to get his next revenge on someone else.............maybe you?

Please , no spoilers or spoiler pictures (on line or otherwise) on this cache . People are just going to have to find out for themselves----if they dare, that is! Besides..... Jake really wouldn't like it.....and you certainly don't want to "go there" !!!

As always, Be careful out there and Have FUN!
