Last week I was over for a BBQ at a friends backyard in Edmonton. He wondered how come I showed up to his party with pine needles in my hair and grass stains on my pants. I let him in on the Geocaching story. As I pulled out my GPSr I noticed a strange thing. The minutes and decimal minutes fraction of my Northing and Westing added up to 60! I didn’t like this so I swiched to decimal fraction and naturally the decimal fractions added up to 1 as well. I was scared!
His friend from down the street said, try this at my house and we went to his backyard and the same thing happened. In fact we checked every house on his street and in every backyard on this street the coordinates in the backyard had the same freaky result. I was stuck in a GPSr Vortex!!!!!!
You must find the vortex before it finds you. It is in Edmonton, if you think about it long enough it is easy to find. The street that most closely parallels the vortex for a distance is your destination. There are more than 15 houses on this street, that we visited, that exhibited this phenomenon.
The cache is placed very close to the vortex itself. I chose to step off the vortex to allow a somewhat stealthy find, also my GPSr abhorrs the vortex.
In order to find the cache you should go to the northern terminus of the vortex street. As you proceed down the street towards the equator pay attention to your heading(true). I got an even number when I did this. Walk a ways your GPSr may jump around at first but do at least 150 meters. I you don't get an even number round to the nearest even bearing divisable by three.
Take this number and add the last digit of the vortex street number to it. Now take this number and multiply it by 3. Put a decimal point in front and you get the Northing decimal minutes for the final cache.
You are obviously looking at the degrees and minutes of the cache on your GPSr already.
Since you are so close to the vortex, calculate the appropriate Vortex Westing for the Northing of the cache.
I placed the cache .010 west of the vortex. Add .010 to the Decimal minutes of your Westing.
You now have the final coordinates for the cache. Yes there is a FTF prize!
The cache is well hidden, easy to find though if you have already found Cubic Zirconia.
Enjoy your time at the Vortex. Good Luck. Don’t get sucked in.
If you have been to Cubic Zirconia you have already been to the ANTIVORTEX. Strange things happen there with your GPS as well!!!
