This is a puzzle cache. The cache is not at the posted
coordinates! The final is located somewhere in Marin, but not
at the posted coordinates, which would place you right in the
middle of U.S. Highway 101. Please do not look
for the cache at the posted coordinates!
This cache is inspired by several other “Aerial Intelligence”
puzzle caches published in four other states: Nevada (GCGPYX),
Virginia (GCM7J3 and GCHV7V), North Carolina (GCK1FA), and New
Hampshire (GCXFT4). The first Aerial Intelligence cache was
published in Nevada in February 2006, and I have borrowed some
helpful photo interpreting comments from that listing for the
benefit of seekers of this cache.
Interpreting aerial photographs requires some skill. People take
years to become truly proficient at it. Some things to look for
include roadways (look for number of lanes, width of road, and
form), buildings (pay attention to size and shape), waterways, and
other distinctive features. Your best bet is probably to have a map
in one hand and the aerial photo in the other and switch back and
forth between the two comparing features.
Below is an aerial photograph copied from Google Earth, which was
taken above Marin County within the last five years. In the
northwest corner of the picture, I have added a red arrow that
points to where a magnetic key holder is hidden that contains the
coordinates for the final. Your first goal is to identify the area
in the aerial photograph and seek the magnetic key holder. When you
find the key holder, please do not take the final coordinates from
the key holder and please do not leave anything in the key holder.
In order to claim the find, you must sign the
logbook in the final. I recommend taking along a friend
for a challenging and fun final retrieval.
Please do not post any pictures, measurements,
or descriptions that would give away the actual location of the
cache! Have fun and good luck!
