Netoli Sviles šaltiniu/Near by Sviles springs
Svile (Spaudžiai)
Springs On the old valley of Venta-Dubysa, the biggest
springs in Lithuania – Svile springs – squirt out in the area of
1,8 ha. Over one hundred spring eyes 'boil' there. The Svile
river, which flows out the springs is the only place in
Lithuania where relict insects of the ice age – arctic faggot
worms - are found. In June, Lithuanian orchids – orchises -
bloom in the neighbouring meadows. People use spring waters for
drinking, food preparation, treatment. Nearby lies the crossing
of Svile crosses. A pine used to stand in that place, where
punishments were executed to the bondmen and the participants of
rebellion of 1863 were gibbeted. People built a chapel-column on
the crossroads. Later on, a 'hill of crosses' emerged there,
which became the place of people's pledges.
