Geocache Description:

The tree is located on an 800m hike through a huge naturalized maple woodlot protected by the City of Guelph. Tree cover may cause GPSr to bounce. This large .50 cal. ammo can cache started with an excellent assortment of trading items. Please respect the integrity of the cache and trade even, trade up or just log the find and don't trade at all. Please do not leave garbage, stones, broken toys, broken key chains or loose pocket change.

Do not park on Speedvale Ave. There is plenty of parking at the trailhead. When this cache was first listed this area did not show up on any TeleAtlas or Navteq maps, hence the cache name, even though this area had been under development for five years. The trail is wide and fairly well marked for most of the walk and weaves around in a huge mostly maple forest. I set up this large cache with my four-year-old son, however a small child cannot retrieve it. This forest is being left in its naturalized state to work with the city’s vision that the protection and maintenance of its woodlots, heritage trees, water resources and environmentally sensitive areas is mandatory. The city’s naturalization policy allows the park landscape to self-perpetuate and provide natural ecosystem functions while preserving the city’s natural resources for the enjoyment of future generations.

*** This giant of a tree has definately been blown down. The cache is safe and sound at the same coordinates and ready to go. Check out the size of this tree when you are finding it and imagine how tall it was. Check the pictures here to see what it looked like before the storm. ***
