Geocache Description:

Great little park in the town of Leedey. Also this park has a very nice Memorial inside it.

Mr. Amos Leedey, for whom the town was named, built the first bulding in 1899 immediatly south of the present day Leedey city limmits on the east side of what is now state highway 34. The building served as a general store, post office and living quarters for Mr. and Mrs. Leedey. The Leedey post office was established January 6, 1900 and Mr. Leedey was the first post master. For a short time between 1909 and 1911 most of the businesses moved to a location called Texmo which was about six miles south and a little west of the present day Leedey. Due to the completion of the MKT Railroad in 1911, the businesses moved to be closer to the railroad establishing the present day Leedey. Leedey has withstood many hardships such as the dust bowl days, the school building burning in 1935, a tornado on May 31, 1947, two World Wars taking a toll of lives, and then the abandonment of the railroad in 1972. In spite of all of this Leedey is still a great little town with a big heart. This cache was originally placed here by Jeritexas.
