Geocache Description:

In amongst all of the new industrial centres is this very nice pocket of bush and park that snakes its way through North Ryde. In its hey day it was a very pleasant spot. FTF may have a flood of cash coming their way. Pity the water does not flow as well today.

Although only 14 km from the centre of Sydney North Ryde remained a distinctly rural community till well after the Second World War. However there were changes in this time, from orchards and farmland and market gardens to one of intense development. The completion of epping road and Macquarie University being situated close by has added a new dimension ( North Ryde from the 1960’s ).

Being a part of Lane Cove National Park there are many picnic areas between Fullers Bridge and de Burgh’s Bridge and these were developed for recreational purposes. Just north of de Burgh’s Bridge the bushland had remained in its natural state and this area was named Shrimpton’s Creek. In the 1930’s this was a preferred spot for Ryde residents to picnic. The water in the creek used to drop from a significant height into a quiet clear pool. When it was dry there was not much more than a trickle, yet when the rains had come the falls became spectacular. Officially named Blaxland Falls the local name was Buckham Falls.
