Geocache Description:

The Skinny:

This cache is located at the summit of Colonel's Mountain in Palmer - the town's highest point. The site is part of Colonel Mountain Wildlife Management Area, a 427 acre parcel owned by the Mass Division of Fisheries & Wildlife. The hike up the mountain to the cache took me 45 minutes, and is just over a mile hike with some parts that, as Dosido says "will test your stamina". The last 500 or so feet, you will be bushwhacking through some light shrub.

The Gauntlet was thrown:

While the seeds for this cache were sowed back in June, the gauntlet was thrown, back around Labor Day. Both Dosido and I were heading towards our 1,000 find, and had hoped to make it together, but alas it was not to happen.

He got his while on vacation in MI, and I while on vacation in SC. Yes, mine was a micro, but hey, it had a Star Trek theme, and was closest to one of my earliest finds. Come on, Kirk and Spock - ROCK! Well, Dosido was not satisfied, and proclaimed: "I will not recognize your 1K, till you climb Colonel's Mountain!" OK dude, I thought, I'll make you eat those words! I'll best that, I'll go up and place a cache at the summit, a place we wanted to explore, and then I will go with you for the "pre-find". Not only that, the Chief and I will present you "our recognition of YOUR 1K find" via a milestone coin I'll place in this new cache.

Saturday, October 27th was designated as "Summit Day", but of course the Chief and I had a "twist". We planned not only the hike, but this cache, and a cookout at Brian's nearby "The Colonel's Cache".

The Cache Twist:

Dosido did not accept the fact that I had found a micro for find # 1000, but with this find he will have to find a micro. Yes a micro in the woods. The "twist" with this 2 stage multi-cache is that it starts out with a 50 MM ammo can, and ends with the log in a film can. The ammo can is an easy find. The film can, harder. Your only hint is: Within 20 Feet, covered by oak leaves.

If you do not find the film can, you may not remove anything from the ammo can, but may leave anything you wish. If you find the film can, sign the log and normal rules apply.

The Trail:

Park at Dosido's parking for GCGWJM and follow the same trails till you reach the street signs near N42 14.000 W72 14.053. His cache is left, mine is right! Be careful, when I placed this cache, I used the track back feature of my Garmin and was glad, the leaves cover the trail at times and you can veer off. If you want the Garmin, or GPX track to the caches, please email me and I will send along!
