We were tired of driveups. . .so we hiked up and up and up to the top of the hill.
You can drive on pavement to within .75 of the cache, and continue to within .14 of the cache on decent Forest Service dirt road. Rumor has it this road continues on down to the lake, but we chickened out--I like my paint!
If you follow the game trails, you should be fine. . .be prepared for an uphill trip, sidehilling, a bit of brushcrawling and some poison oak, safely dormant at this date. We went until we could see the lake over yonder, and until we liked the view.
The cache itself is the reason for the name, after one of my favorite children's tales. . .OlCowboy gave us the container, TedandDawnie gave us a geocoin for FTF, and if you bring something small enough for a container a little bigger than a decon, we can have a party! We will get back up there with a more waterproof ammo can one of these days, but we were fresh out.
Plenty of sign of game, so don't be too surprised if you see deer, or even a bear or a coyote or a mountain lion. In summer, there WILL be snakes in the area, as it is still in Northern California, so go carefully.
