aniyn: I stopped in to check on this cache today. It was indeed still there, but I decided to remove it. Most of the people who attended the event have found it, and apparently that was a prerequisite to appreciating the cache location. Hopefully this will open up some space for a new cache in the area.

Geocache Description:

A small cache located at the edge of a small swamp near the community campground in Salmo B.C. Terrain shouldn't be much of a challenge, just watch where you step, and don't fall in!

Parking is available just a few metres from the cache on the side of the road.

This cache has a somewhat colourful past. The 2007 West Kootenay Autumn Equinox Gathering event featured a plethora of night caching, not the least of which was an FTF race, looking for nine glowing caches hidden (mostly) around the campground. A typo'd digit in the location of cache #7 however left many of us comically wandering around in a swamp in the dark before the error was discovered and corrected. The spot however seemed good, so I decided to leave a real cache there as a "living" memory of a weekend well spent.

The other piece of history for this cache is the container itself - "Licorice #54". Originating from Gathai's Secret Stash, this cache container was orphaned after the cache's owner could no longer find it, and replaced it with a larger cache ("Licorice #57")in a slightly different spot. I had failed to find the original cache numerous times before, earning it the unofficial status of my bane. Eventually both caches were located and combined into the larger container; the smaller container making its way to Salmo were it lies now.
